I am happy to share my favorite way to store DMC floss. I print my tag on 65 lb. Neenah Gray paper. Cut into 1-3/4" x 2-5/8" rectangles, and punch the two holes.

I also cut my DMC to 30" (or whatever is comfortable for you), fold in half, loop through the hole and put the end through the loop. I like to braid mine to keep it from tangling, and it looks soooo beautiful. I can easily pull out a single strand with no trouble. This method is not for everyone, but it may work for you as well.
